Our Story

How We Met
Our story began in March 2023, when a digital connection crossed over to the real world.
CJ asked Bri out for their first date in the East Village. Wanting to make a good first impression, Bri had her Uber driver drop her off two blocks away so she could walk up to the restaurant and avoid looking like an "Uber girl". Meanwhile, CJ, excited to try a restaurant his sister had recommended, confidently ordered oysters, escargot, prosecco, and clam pasta - a somewhat questionable culinary lineup for a first date, but one that somehow worked out perfectly.
What started as dinner quickly turned into an unforgettable, late-night adventure. Neither was quite ready to call it quits, so they spent hours wandering from one neighborhood bar to the next, talking, laughing, and getting to know each other.
From that night on, they were hooked and inseparable (ask the 90 Nassau roommates - they were shocked).
What began as quick mid-workday coffee dates soon turned into a mutual scramble to clear their schedules, with any spare moment becoming an excuse to see each other. From sunny afternoon picnics to meeting each other's closest friends, their relationship seemed to pick up speed effortlessly - and everyone around them could see the spark.
Just eight weeks after that first date, they took their first international trip together, cementing what they already knew: this was something truly special.
Before long, CJ and Bri were building a life together, one filled with adventure, laughter, and countless memories - and they wouldn't have it any other way.
The Proposal
The proposal started with what Bri thought was a casual brunch at her parents' apartment in New York City.
CJ had told her they were leaving for a surprise trip that evening, with a 9 PM flight, so Bri made the thoughtful decision to spend the morning cleaning out the fridge and bringing perishables, packages, and items to be mailed over to her parents' apartment - including a 40-pound box. Little did she know, their flight wasn't actually for another two days.
With the New York City skyline behind them, CJ got down on one knee and asked Bri to spend forever together. Completely caught off guard, Bri's shock quickly gave way to happy tears as the two shared a moment they would never forget.
After the proposal, the celebration continued downstairs with both immediate families before moving on to the next surprise of the day.
Awaiting them at the restaurant where they shared their first date were their closest friends, ready to celebrate. The East Village venue had been rented out for a surprise engagement party, bringing their story full circle in the very place where it all began.

THE CITY OF GAUDÍ, TAPAS & LATE NIGHTS
Barcelona is the kind of city that rewards wandering. One minute you’re moving through the medieval lanes of the Gothic Quarter, the next you’re sitting at a sidewalk table with a vermouth, watching the city unfold around you. It’s equal parts grand, effortless, and sometimes reminiscent of the not-so-nice things we experience in NYC (tourism, garbage, and homelessness) - but just like NYC, we love it regardless of its drawbacks.
Don't Miss:
-
The Sagrada Família: it’s finally finished!
-
Casa Batlló: buy the fast pass, totally worth the extra 5 euros
-
La Boqueria food tour: check out Viator for easy affordable booking options
-
Palau de la Música Catalana: escape the heat and be surrounded by the most gorgeous architecture
CJ & BRI’S PICK:
-
After Casa Batlló, walk over to Carrer de Mallorca, which is bustling and filled with great restaurants that locals dine at, like Arko Sushi Restaurant and Cerveseria Catalana - both we really enjoyed.
-
While in the Gothic Quarter, grab a bite at Bar Pimentel (get there when they open or book a res) and stop into Bri’s favorite clothing store, Sixxta, for cool local threads.
-
If you are looking for late night fun, go shake some booty on Carrer de Tuset.
-
Ladies, highly recommend stopping at Intimissimi and Mango - Spanish brands that are half the price in Europe, and you get the VAT back at the airport! Just save those receipts, and hot tip: go to the VAT refund desk after you go through security at the airport if the pre-security one has a long line.
-
Gentleman, CJ bought awesome loafers at Zapateria Bravo Java, an affordable leather shoe store in the center of town with many cool styles (there is also a women's section!).
